The skateboard has always been a support for art.
Since the beginning, the skateboard was the only ‘legal’ support accessible to the overwhelming creativity of this mileu. The other being, of course, the walls and streets or skateparks invaded by the practitioners. The presitigious aspect of the skateboard, compared to walls, gives it a certain aura to artists invited to express themselves on this support...the collection of artwork featured each season becomes, de facto, the first gallery of the board culture.
Today, expos on skateboards are numerous, but they only feature work that uses the boards as a support for paintings or designs. Spacejunk today has decided to take a different and the richest possible approach, by creating another kind of expo; one where the board is an object before it is a mere support for decoration. So we proposed that the artists work on two different boards: one traditional, ready for use; the other, less known, raw, not yet put together, just pressed and still rectangular...
This expo also attempted to correlate different artistic milieus: design, modern art, street art and of course, the artists of the board culture. For this Spacejunk’s second expo, the theme is the support.
The success of the first show calls for this second session, always as an “invitation” sent to certain people, certain savoir-faire, certain new finds...
